HNTB Corporation is currently seeking a Manager of Aviation Economics to join our National Aviation Planning Practice. Our aviation planning practice provides consulting services to airports throughout the United States by performing comprehensive master plan and targeted airfield/airspace, terminal, ground transportation and environmental planning services.

The candidate for this position will be a strategic member of the national aviation planning practice and will have responsibility for serving key aviation clients across the country. The candidate should have comprehensive experience with aviation economics, including forecasting and financial analysis, and will manage airport forecast, business and finance projects. The ideal candidate will have proven planning capability, project management skills, and be a practice builder.

The position has high potential for professional growth. This position is based in Oakland, CA, LAX, LA, Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York City, Arlington, Miami, Boston, Denver, or Kansas City.

Job Summary

Determines objectives and requirements within the discipline, organizes programs and projects and develops standards and guides for diverse planning activities.

Essential Responsibility

  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with transportation planning, landscape architecture, urban design and/or planning leaders and other discipline/office leaders.

  • Supervises and coordinates project managers to ensure HNTB's 4 for 4 (Consistent delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client's satisfaction on every project) performance.

  • Monitors design and technical continuity throughout projects.

  • Oversees maintenance of Manual of Professional Practice.

  • Understands and assists with all aspects of the profession within the office, including business development initiatives, project management, technical applications and design applications.

  • Coordinates among leadership within the office and the company on a regular basis.

  • Leads special assignments on behalf of the office, division, and service group.

  • Serves as client service leader for assigned market area or project manager for key clients and larger assignments. Maintains extensive client contacts.

  • Coordinates with group director and office leaders on strategic issues and achievement of business performance goals.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supports aviation planning and design projects across the country.

  • Serves as the lead aviation economist for HNTB’s aviation planning practice with a focus on growing the aviation forecast, business, and finance group.

  • Develop aviation forecasts to support a wide variety of aviation projects at both commercial service and general aviation airports.

  • Lead financial analysis including benefit-cost analysis, capital program development, revenue analysis, and letters of intent.

  • Manage data analytics for a range of projects.

  • Direct the development of written reports and deliverables.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations for dissemination of technical information to clients, stakeholders, and the public.

  • Closely coordinate with other HNTB service lines.

  • Recruit, grow, mentor, and oversee aviation economics staff.

  • Lead business development and proposal preparation efforts to help grow the aviation practice.

  • Perform related work as required.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, or related field

12 years related experience

10 years related experience (with Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, or related field)

Preferred Qualification/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field that provides a strong foundation for forecasting and financial analysis, such as Economics, Business, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering.

  • Extensive knowledge of best practices, methods, and principles utilized in aviation forecasting and financial analysis.

  • Strong understanding of evolving trends in the aviation industry.

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

  • Extensive knowledge of analytical techniques and interpreting simulation results.

  • Experience developing forecasts for commercial and general aviation airports.

  • Understanding of airport systems and interrelationships including developing forecasts for system plans.

  • Experience preparing funding plans for aviation planning projects.

  • Understanding of aviation finance and FAA rules and regulations concerning grant funding.

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communications skills.

Willingness to travel to client sites.

  • Ability to apply advanced professional knowledge of the principles of management, business, marketing and administration in performing complex airport planning projects.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at client organizations.

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
