The time is right to join HNTB! We are currently seeking an Office Engineer in our Arlington, Richmond, and Virginia Beach, VA offices.
Under the guidance and direction of the Resident Engineer, is responsible for the maintenance and oversight of an organized and efficient document control system. Candidate should be familiar with VDOT document control requirements, as well as roadway and bridge construction practices and procedures. This position will require the candidate to perform inspections as needed to support schedule requirements, as well as assist the Resident Engineer in a variety of assigned tasks.
Performs basic contract administration functions for medium projects. Assists in performing field inspection of multiple routine contractor activities.
Inspects and documents individual activities performed by the contractor.
Performs measurement of completed work to date.
Reads and comprehends contract documents.
Keeps inspectors daily report of assigned work activities.
Maintains overall project daily diary.
Prepares monthly construction estimates.
Assists in on-site material testing.
Monitors construction progress to assure proper installation sequences and compliance with schedule and contract requirements and state and local regulations.
Assists in the review and modifications of schedules, specifications
and drawings.Prepares short term schedules to identify potential scheduling problems and recommends possible solutions.
Acts as project manager as needed.
Performs other duites as assigned.
Ability to maintain an organized and efficient file management system
Ability to coordinate with contractors’ staff, communicate effectively with all parties and good interpersonal skills
Review inspectors’ reports
Recognizes basic construction or engineering problems
Proficient in applying standard testing techniques and procedures for the verification of material
Able to read and interpret complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings. .
Able to work a shift schedule and/or flexible schedules as required to support the workload, as well as in inclement weather, heights, confined spaces and marine environments
Able to lift 25lbs
Performs standard mathematical calculations, including trigonometry
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture
1 year construction experience
All jurisdictional certifications as required
Preferred 5+ years construction related experience
Valid driver’s license
Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel
Familiarity with electronic file management systems
Experience using SharePoint, contracts Manager and ProjectWise preferred
Experience working on VDOT projects as an Office Engineer required; prior experience in the Hampton Roads District preferred
General Work Conditions
Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
