HNTB Senior Project Manager - Traction Power in Arlington, Virginia

What We're Looking For

HNTB is seeking a Senior Project Manager - Traction Power in our Washington DC, Arlington VA or Baltimore MD office. The candidate selected will be responsible for the leadership and management of a team in support of the project’s profitable operation. Responsible for proactively managing the projects technical budget (direct labor and expenses, including technical sub-consultants), schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, project communications and HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. This position serves as primary client contact for multiple projects. Responsible for gross revenue of $10M-30M. Has full managerial responsibility for all aspects of the project including negotiating extras, cost control, staffing and quality control.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Secure profitable new work.

  • Estimate fees, determine scope of work, prepare proposals and contracts on large or multiple projects.

  • Actively manage clients budget, schedule and program; HNTB budget and schedule; project communications and documentation.

  • Build Client Relationships.

  • Satisfy client requirements.

  • Coordinate work efforts and review work performed.

  • Develops mathematical models

  • Prepares power system studies for AC and DC electrified railway systems

  • Prepares computer simulations and studies including AC and DC load flow, short-circuit availability, motor-starting, and protective relay coordination studies

  • Performs site investigations in substations and along railroad tracks

  • Prepares technical and cost proposals

  • Develops and deliver technical papers to industry

  • Prepares and make interview presentations

  • Lead technical design for both AC and DC railway electrification projects

  • Manage design process and client expectations

  • Help develop and grow client base.

  • Train and develop support staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Willingness to travel when required

  • PE License in MD, Virginia or ability to obtain within 1 year

  • Experience working on traction power projects

  • BS in Electrical Engineer with a MS preferred

  • 15 or more years’ experience in design, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems

  • Experience in electrified railway substation and power distribution systems designs in:

  • AC and DC traction power system design

  • 600/750 volt DC rail transit traction power substations

  • 25KV rail transit traction power substations Frequency Converters

  • Stray Current Mitigation

  • Wayside cable plant

  • Circuit breakers

  • Switchgear

  • Transformers

  • Rectifiers

  • SCADA and PLC Protection Systems

  • Overhead catenary and third rail characteristics

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.

  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.

  • Provides oversight and monitoring of work to less experienced project managers. Coordinates work efforts and review work performed. Schedules and manages for integration of quality management during all phases of a project.

  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 16 years relevant experience

  • 6 years project management experience
