HNTB Technician III - Transportation Design in Arlington, Virginia
What We're Looking For
Position provides primary support for CADD production and associated functions within the Transportation Department, supporting teams of planners, engineers, and other professionals. Proficient in CADD design software (identified below), strong familiarity with VDOT CADD and plan development standards, and experience working in an A/E environment that focuses on the planning, design, and construction of transportation infrastructure. Works with professional staff in scheduling work and deliverables. Supports the training and development of staff relative to proficiency in CADD platforms.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Advanced use of Bentley OpenRoads Designer, with the ability to (a) resolve operating conflicts and workspace issues; (b) develop civil/highway design plan sets that comply with client-specific guidelines and standards; (c) support training and development of junior engineers in the use and application of the software
Advanced use and understanding of Microstation, including workspace configuration
Reading and understanding civil design drawings to extract content and relate design information across project platforms
Project-specific support on the use of AutoCAD and Civil3D
Use of Microsoft Office suite software packages - Outlook, Word, and Excel
File management activities associated with CADD deliverables
Collaboration with professional staff to achieve project-specific objectives
Application of quality management procedures to ensure compliance with client-driven requirements
Careful management of time to support multiple concurrent projects
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Familiarity with plan development standards and procedures for DDOT and MdSHA
Experience developing 3D imaging and visualizations to support public involvement activities
Knowledge of ArcGIS software and applications
What You'll Need
Essential Responsibilities:
Responsible for the organization of all design/production related files.
Responsible for verifying the accuracy of drawings, compatibility of work across disciplines and for checking detail and quantity calculations.
Assists the engineer in outlining objectives, requirements and design approaches.
Attends project and pre-construction meetings and provides input to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed. Prepares electronic files for use in meetings and facilitates their display.
Calculates quantities and performs engineering related computations.
Provides training and mentoring of less experienced technicians.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate of Science or Technical School
6 years related experience
In lieu of education, 8 years related experience
Proficient in the terminology and symbols used in survey notes, plans, shop drawings, aerial photographs, and maps related to a specific Engineering sub-type.
