This opportunity entails being responsible for strategic and commercial input and direction on large, complex projects or programs, with a focus on innovative delivery (including P3 and progressive contracting methods). This position will be focused on public sector consulting, largely (though not exclusively) for transportation agencies in the US and will aim to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction. This position is a national role within HNTB’s Advisory group and partners with senior Advisory team members to develop and promote subject matter expertise and best practices nationwide.
What You'll Do:
Applies commercial expertise and guidance on project structures, risk allocation, delivery options and contract terms for innovative delivery contracts. Coordinates commercial considerations across all disciplines within programs.
Develops and implements procurement documentation and strategies.
Engages with industry participants to define and optimize commercial structures and provisions.
Acts as subject matter expert to provide strategic advice and analysis, and engage in marketing and business development, as well as preparing reports and presentations to HNTB leadership and senior client personnel.
Manages tasks or major workstreams independently, and interfaces with senior Advisory and client leadership to ensure 4for4 delivery while managing client relationships and day to day interactions with appropriate counterparts. Responsible for successful contracting and project execution, working closely with regional HNTB staff and office leadership.
Prepares technical materials for client engagements, including strategic analyses, commercial documentation, technical provisions, procurement documents, and other materials pertaining to applicable subject matter focus.
Trains and instructs line personnel on innovative delivery and other Advisory disciplines. Advises on business planning and supports marketing efforts of the line organization.
Works with the line organization in a lead support role on strategically important client and project pursuits, providing strategic input and market knowledge to expand service offerings and enhance win probabilities.
Contributes to strategic planning for Advisory and assists with thought leadership initiatives.
Mentors and oversees the work of junior Advisory staff through performance management and encouragement of professional development opportunities.
Represents Advisory and the firm at industry events and organizations, and drives thought leadership and external positioning efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 12 years of relevant experience.
Master's degree in relevant field and 10 years of relevant experience.
PhD/JD in relevant field and 8 years of relevant experience
What We Prefer:
Possesses legal and commercial subject matter expertise
Has a legal background, including a JD (or the international equivalent); Masters / PhD not required for this role
Experience working at an infrastructure developer and/or public agency dealing with legal and commercial aspects of infrastructure development is preferred (though not required); international experience a plus
Experience working in the transportation sector, including on public-private partnerships and innovative delivery projects (CM/GC, Progressive DB, etc.)
Broad knowledge of the transportation infrastructure industry, key players, policies, existing programs, and precedent transactions
Strong professional connections across the infra industry, well known and respected by industry peers, active in industry organizations
Excellent communication and writing skills
Professional demeanor, able to independently interface with senior client leaders
Collaborative problem solver, able to work with individuals having a variety of backgrounds and skill sets
Strategic thinker, able to see the broader picture beyond their assigned role and identify and advance opportunities to enhance service offerings
Understanding of public sector consulting and key value drivers for HNTB

The approximate pay range for New York City and Westchester County, NY is $240,340.34 - $399,916.97. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
The approximate pay range for California is $220,311.99 - $399,916.97. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
