HNTB Engineer III - Rail & Transit in Austin, Texas

What We're Looking For

The time is right to join HNTB! Our growing Austin Rail & Transit team is seeking qualified professionals for an opportunity focused on development of design plans for complex rail and transit projects. Design experience on transportation projects is preferred as this position will complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. The Engineer III – Rail & Transit will also coordinate preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Professional Engineer in State of Texas, or ability to obtain within one year

  • 6 years of relevant experience

  • Microstation

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.

  • Assist in the development of project specifications.

  • Responsible for development of discipline specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.

  • Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members.

  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs quality control reviews of discipline - specific engineering project elements/deliverables.

  • Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 year of relevant experience

  • PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience

  • Uses resourcefulness in securing and deploying resources effectively and efficiently with support.

  • Drives self-development by actively seeking new ways to grow and be challenged both technically and in task leadership using both formal (courses) and informal (feedback) development channels.

  • Being tech savvy by showing proficiency in using and customizing tools for design efficiency on the job, understanding what software applications are needed to accomplish tasks, and knowing which software to use for various applications and its limitations. Comfortable learning new software and hardware.

  • Optimizes work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Understands and is able to coordinate interdisciplinary efforts.

  • Independently progresses the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.

  • Exhibits experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and MicroStation and/or AutoCad.

  • Exhibits a thorough understanding of the application related to engineering, geometric and algebraic principles.

  • Manages time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.
