HNTB Systems Project Engineer - Transit/Rail in Baltimore, Maryland

We're seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Systems Project Engineer to join our rail/transit practice. This individual will provide technical support in the design and delivery of client projects involving CCTV surveillance and video management systems, access control, real-time information systems (RTIS), control centers, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, wireless communications (VHF, UHF, Cellular), and network infrastructure including Fiber Optics and copper cabling and associated hardware and software. Responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. Works closely with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate project needs by leveraging technical knowledge and experience. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.
What You'll Do:
Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence the to the schedule and budget on projects.
Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.
Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.
Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.
Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience
What You'll Bring:
Assist in the creation and development of communications system designs for assigned projects
Study and select CCTV surveillance and video management systems, access control systems, RTIS, SCADA systems and associated infrastructure to fit the project design
Perform field surveys and coordinate with client representatives to complete design engineering for communications systems
Establish strong client relationships
Generate technical study reports and prepare presentations to convey information to team members and clients.
Attend project review and progress meetings with clients.
Review shop drawings and submittals to ensure contractors’ compliance with drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
What We Prefer:
Proven experience in one or more low voltage communications systems – CCTV, access control, RTIS, SCADA
Experience with Transit/Rail Communications Systems
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with desire to seek PE certification
Knowledgeable in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
