HNTB Senior Technical Writer - Federal Grant Writer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
What We're Looking For
Responsible for supporting our clients, including cities, parishes, counties, state departments of transportation, transit agencies and other public sector agencies to secure federal and state funding for infrastructure projects. Opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams across the firm including federal grants experts, government relations teams, technical staff and economists to develop competitive federal and state grant applications.
Essential Responsibilities:
Works with Division Marketing and technical staff to write, format and edit content for written materials. Engages with pursuit teams in the development of win themes, differentiating messaging and compelling technical approaches for both proposals and presentations.
Edits and formats content written by others, ensuring consistency in writing style and approach throughout various documents, often serving as proposal reviewer, and final independent quality check, as needed.
Gathers information through research, statistical reports, and interviews with technical staff.
May serve as a mentor to other marketing staff in sharpening writing skills.
May facilitate writing workshops.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Technical, Communications or related field
5 years of relevant experience
Primary Focus Will Include:
Using research and writing skills to develop federal and state grant applications that thoroughly address grant program requirements, while creatively highlighting the strengths of every project
Working in teams and independently, researching topics such as community demographics and economic trends in areas adjacent to proposed projects, related planning efforts, etc., to support development of grant application narratives
May interface directly with clients and be responsible for managing grant application project schedules and budgets
Working directly with technical staff to develop accurate and persuasive content for qualifications, proposals and reports
Performing editing, formatting and quality reviews to ensure consistency in written project communication materials
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong writing skills, including the ability to draft report-length project narratives in a professional voice and style
Ability to distill key themes and compelling elements of a large infrastructure project and articulate them concisely for an unfamiliar reader
Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, SharePoint, and other communications-related software programs
Basic document layout and production skills, including use of references, styles, and image formatting
Organizational skills to help track compliance with grant program requirements
Experience with federal or state infrastructure grant programs preferred
Knowledge of transportation, water, drainage and flood protection or state and municipal sector infrastructure challenges and/or capital planning processes preferredBachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years of professional experience required
