HNTB Sr Field Engineer in Bellevue, Washington
What We're Looking For
We are currently seeking a Sr Field Engineer in our Seattle, Washington office to continue to grow our Pacific Northwest Construction Services practice. We are looking for collaborative, self-starters with at least 6 years’ field engineering or inspection experience. Preferred experience includes bridge, track, airport, transit, systems, roadway, and/or utilities projects. Experience working with Sound Transit, WSDOT, Port of Seattle, Seattle Dept. of Transportation, Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle City Light, and/or other local agencies is highly desirable.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Inspects, monitors, and documents construction field work activities to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
Maintains documentation including logs, reports, materials testing, force accounts, and other construction records.
Provides proactive communication and coordination with resident engineering team, client, and contractor, including attending meetings.
Identifies construction issues, proactively recommends solutions, and assists in the resolution of issues.
Verifies field measurements/quantities for payments.
Identifies and tracks contractor’s non-compliant or deficient work and prepares non-conformance reports as needed
Reports observed safety deficiencies and violations.
Assists with update of record drawings.
Performs contract close-out documentation.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local agency construction administration policies.
Gains exposure to new industry technology and utilizes it to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), American Concrete Institute (ACI), or Project Management Professional (PMP).
OSHA 30 certified preferred.
Agency safety training certified.
Trained in digital construction management software preferred.
Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Bluebeam, & Adobe, and mobile devices such as tablet computers.
Familiarity with engineering, architectural, and construction documents.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to maintain good working relationships with project team, clients, and contractors.
Ability to anticipate problems, proactively develop solutions to overcome those problems, and discern when escalation is necessary.
Some flexibility to work hours dictated by the Contractor’s schedule
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
What You'll Need
Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Administers KPIs and budget, reads and interprets complex contract documents to ensure compliance.
Performs or oversees on-site material testing. Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities). Responsible for tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications, identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents. Reviews contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency. Prepares weekly progress reports.
Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.
Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
Performs office engineer work when needed including but not limited to; assists change manager and project manager in contractor claims and disputes. Tracks, reviews, processes RFIs and submittals, and performs constructability reviews.
Leads daily assignments, mentors, and trains employees. Monitors internal HNTB project controls as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years relevant experience.
Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years relevant experience.
Doctorate degree in Engineering and 4 years relevant experience.
