HNTB Sr. Inspector in Bellevue, Washington

What We're Looking For

We are currently seeking a Senior Inspector in our Seattle, Washington office to continue to grow our Pacific Northwest Construction Services practice. We are looking for detail-oriented, organized, self-starters with at least 10 years’ construction management experience on public infrastructure projects. Experience working with the City of Seattle, Sound Transit, Washington State Department of Transportation, Port of Seattle, or other local agencies is highly desirable. The Sr. Inspector will be responsible for monitoring of all field construction administration activities under minimal supervision to assure that construction projects are completed in compliance with the design and contractual documents.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Inspects, monitors, and documents construction field work activities to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.

  • Verifies materials match the approved submittals and oversees on-site material testing.

  • Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications and identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents. Reviews contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.

  • Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated and complicated mathematical calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.

  • Provides proactive communication and coordination with resident engineering team, client, and contractor, including attending meetings and providing reports.

  • Proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.

  • Performs contract close-out documentation.

  • Mentors and trains junior employees.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local construction administration policies.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience on alternative delivery projects, including GC/CM or Design-Build

  • Understanding of construction methods, including standards, equipment, processes, and safety considerations, and an ability to reads and interpret complex contract documents.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to maintain good working relationships with project team, clients, and contractors.

  • Ability to anticipate problems and proactively develop solutions to overcome those problems.

  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Bluebeam, & Adobe, mobile devices such as tablet computers, and CM software programs.

  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record.

  • Work frequently requires working at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in a field environment. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment, and walking.

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents, and plans. Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.

  • Advises Contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs, and contract.

  • Reviews and resolves quantity disputes with contractor.

  • Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated and complicated mathematical calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.

  • Assists with reviews and checks calculations for Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.

  • Performs on-site material testing and assists with equipment maintenance.

  • Assists with as-built record drawings.

  • Assists with contract close-out documentation.

  • Assists in construction schedule reviews, contractor pay estimate reviews, and change order management.

  • Attends and participates in, as needed, project progress meetings.

  • Serves as field technical subject matter expert.

  • May lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Engineering, Construction Services, or related field and 10 years relevant experience.

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Construction Services, or related field and 8 years of relevant experience.

  • In lieu of degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
