HNTB Corporation is currently seeking an Aviation Terminal Planning Manager to join our National Aviation Planning Practice. Our aviation planning practice provides consulting services to airports throughout the United States by performing comprehensive master plan and targeted airfield/airspace, terminal, ground transportation, and environmental planning services.

The candidate for this position will be a strategic member of the national aviation planning practice and will have responsibility for serving key aviation clients across the country. The candidate should have comprehensive experience with airport terminal projects and will help identify opportunities, lead proposal efforts, and manage airport terminal planning projects. The ideal candidate will have proven planning capability, project management skills and be a practice builder. The position has high potential for professional growth.

This position is based in Oakland, CA, LAX, LA, Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York City, Arlington, Miami, Boston, Denver, or Kansas City.

Job Summary

Determines objectives and requirements within the discipline, organizes programs and projects and develops standards and guides for diverse planning activities.

Essential Responsibility

  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with transportation planning, landscape architecture, urban design and/or planning leaders and other discipline/office leaders.

  • Supervises and coordinates project managers to ensure HNTB's 4 for 4 (Consistent delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client's satisfaction on every project) performance.

  • Monitors design and technical continuity throughout projects.

  • Oversees maintenance of Manual of Professional Practice.

  • Understands and assists with all aspects of the profession within the office, including business development initiatives, project management, technical applications and design applications.

  • Coordinates among leadership within the office and the company on a regular basis.

  • Leads special assignments on behalf of the office, division, and service group.

  • Serves as client service leader for assigned market area or project manager for key clients and larger assignments. Maintains extensive client contacts.

  • Coordinates with group director and office leaders on strategic issues and achievement of business performance goals.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supports aviation planning and design projects across the country.

  • Serves as the lead terminal planner for HNTB’s aviation planning practice with a focus on growing, marketing, and delivering terminal area programs.

  • Manage terminal planning projects at airports nationwide.

  • Direct technical analysis for terminal components for airport planning projects.

  • Deliver studies ranging from conceptual planning to schematic design of airport facilities.

  • Recruit, grow, mentor, and oversee terminal planning staff.

  • Direct the development of written reports and deliverables for airport planning studies.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations for dissemination of technical information to clients, stakeholders, and the public.

  • Closely coordinate with other HNTB service lines.

  • Lead business development and proposal preparation efforts to help grow the aviation practice.

  • Perform related work as required.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, or related field

12 years related experience

10 years related experience (with Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, or related field)

Preferred Qualification/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field that provides a strong foundation for aviation consulting, such as Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Aviation Management.

  • Extensive knowledge of best practices, methods, and principles utilized in terminal planning, infrastructure and facilities planning, and operational readiness for airports.

  • Strong understanding of evolving trends in the planning and design of airport terminal facilities.

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • High level of proficiency using Revit and other 3-dimenionsal analysis and drawing tools.

  • Extensive experience in developing and managing high-end renderings for public and stakeholder consumption.

  • Extensive knowledge of analytical techniques and related tools including statistical, spreadsheet, database, simulation, and spatial/graphical analysis applications.

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communications skills.

  • Willingness to travel to client sites.

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
