HNTB Corporation is expanding our Carolinas Hydraulic Team. HNTB’s Transportation team is very active in aviation, transit, freight rail, and highway design and #TeamHNTB is looking for a highly talented Project Engineer to join the Carolinas Hydraulics section. The role will be expected to provide leadership support for project delivery and business development for HNTB’s Hydraulics team and growing South Carolina practice. Primary duties will include assisting the Carolinas Hydraulics Section Manager with the development of strategic planning, oversight of technical project delivery while keeping profitability in mind, quality control, and assisting with staff development and morale. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to grow the Transportation Hydraulics team through increasing market share with existing clients and diversification of the client base. They will be expected to serve as Hydraulics Technical Lead on key projects in the South Carolina market and may also lead and coordinate hydraulics services with other groups within North Carolina and South Carolina. They will promote HNTB through active engagement in professional organizations to increase industry visibility throughout the region. They will be expected to coordinate with area client managers and marketing staff to identify projects and contract opportunities with existing and new clients and may directly coordinate with national leaders to leverage the full resources of HNTB to expand service offerings and grow market share.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence to the schedule and budget on projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Understands the impacts of decisions on technical design and work planning.

  • Must be able to work cooperatively with area leaders, section managers, operations managers, technical directors and marketing staff.

  • Coordinates work planning and design effectively across multiple technical disciplines.

  • Prepares high quality deliverables that are on time, and within budget and scope.

  • Technical proficiency preparing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and reports, scour investigations, erosion and sediment control plans and reports, drainage and stormwater management design, waterway and NPDES permitting, quantity & cost estimates, and specifications

What We Prefer:

  • 8 years relevant experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification

  • Project experience and existing relationships with SCDOT and municipal clients in SC.

  • Expertise in erosion and sediment control criteria, stormwater management regulations and permitting processes with demonstrated experience in South Carolina coastal region hydrology.

  • MicroStation OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience

  • HEC-RAS And/or SRH-2D River Modeling Experience

  • ArcGIS Pro and HEC-HMS experience
