HNTB Design Manager- Aviation in Dallas, Texas

We are seeking a Design Manager to join our dynamic team of design professionals, with a passion for aviation, customer service and airport facility design. A Design manger leads the development of project design standards, requirements, and solutions. Must possess a thorough knowledge of architectural or interior design practice with emphasis on aviation design, building materials, construction methods, integration of engineering disciplines and building codes. Position should have extensive knowledge of building costs and design/construction schedules. Supervises a design department for a specific element or discipline of service.

In this role, you will be responsible for collaborating and leading all aspects of the creative design process for medium to large scale aviation and transportation projects, providing design leadership throughout all phases. Collaborate with team leadership to meet project goals, budgets, and schedule parameters. You may be engaged in multiple projects, in various phases of development, at any one time.

In partnership with other architecture practice leaders, you will be responsible for enhancing a culture for design excellence, elevate the quality of design, and represent the firm as a design leader and subject-matter expert.

Proven track record of helping establish and nurture client relationships. You will work with firm leadership in development of strategies to pursue, interview, win, design and deliver large-scale projects.

Possesses exceptional design, communication, and presentation skills. Is considered a subject matter expert and has a proven a track record of leading teams in the development of award-winning, and creative design solutions for a variety of projects. Mentors younger staff in the creative design and presentation process.

Leads the development of project design standards, requirements and solutions. Primary Focus Will Include:

  • In collaboration with national and office leaders and studio leaders, will be responsible for leading key client presentations as part of project delivery. Will serve as thought-leader, representing the firm at national industry events.

  • Strong presentation and visualization skills to communicate design ideas, including a strong ability to generate 2D/3D concepts by hand and by using a variety of computer software.

  • Actively engaged in marketing and business development initiatives at a national level on large scale projects. Participates in national strategic planning, pursuit strategy sessions, client meetings, presentations, and interviews to help win new work.

  • Work with the practice, office, and market sector leadership to develop, implement, and update strategic plans focused on strengthening our design brand, growth, profitability, and approach to outstanding client service.

  • Serves as design leader, guiding and directing design staff across multiple project teams simultaneously. Responsible for ensuring design and technical excellent is consistently maintained across all projects.

  • Supports Project Manager(s) and Sr. Project Architect(s) to ensure projects are on schedule, on budget, reflect the latest industry trends.

  • Promotes a strong design culture, guiding the implementation of design charrettes and workshops for multiple projects, fostering a collaborative atmosphere throughout the practice. Participates in team meetings to review project design and technical issues.

  • Actively mentors and directs the work of younger staff in the delivery of projects. Develops, recognizes, recruits and grows diverse design talent at a local and national level.

  • Actively promotes sustainable design solutions, award-winning design, and collaborates with leadership to elevate the status of the firm as an industry leader.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • NCARB/NCIDQ

  • High moral character with leadership skills.

  • Organizational abilities required.

  • Industry relationships and prior project delivery experience necessary.

  • Strong presentation and communication skills

  • Proficiency in architectural software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam is a plus

  • Experience with Adobe Suite products, SketchUp, InDesign is a plus

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Participates in marketing responsibilities including coordination with market sector leaders, local, division and national business development teams.

  • Maintains direct involvement in all project activities including setting initial design direction, implementation, and oversight of design teams.

  • Establishes priorities and work schedules and manages resource needs/assignments.

  • Reviews/supervises and mentors staff with lesser experience.

  • Provides advice related to promotion, discipline, performance review, work allocation and training.

  • Overall design supervision for projects and staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture/Design, or Engineering

  • 12 years related experience

  • RA/RID/PE
