HNTB Digital Solutions Technologist - GeoAnalytics Team Lead in Dallas, Texas

This opportunity is within HNTB’s Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) group. We deliver digital platforms and data-driven initiatives that support modern, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure, enterprises, and communities. The Digital Solutions Technologist is responsible for providing subject matter expertise for delivery of comprehensive digital solutions to transportation agencies for all infrastructure life-cycle phases, including planning, design, construction, asset management, maintenance, and operations taking digital geospatial solutions from original concept through final implementation.

The ideal candidate will have the skillsets to:

  • Work with clients and technology office staff to assess each solution’s applicability, functionality, viability, and return on investment.

  • Identify, research, design, and review technologies that offer differentiated solutions for client use cases.

  • Provide recommendations of new technology related business opportunities and solutions, including architecture, quality assurance and implementation strategies.

  • Work in a team-oriented, client driven, and results driven environment.

This opportunity will supervise geospatial technical staff in the GeoAnalytics Team, mentoring and supporting staff through career growth with right fit assignments. The GeoAnalytics Team within DTS develops analytical solutions from diverse data sources via analytical models through ETL processes such as FME or python, offering insights for improved decision-making and visualizing those insights in compelling ways. The data sources are diverse and often very large, beyond what can be appropriately modeled in the tools that most transportation engineers and planners use. This team helps unlock the underlying data story and communicate it to stakeholders. The team lead sets and executes team vision.

What You'll Do:

  • Provides single point of contact for technology projects and products and/or lead specific technical or functional portions of a project. Determines scope of work and objectives; estimate project costs and prepare proposals and contracts. Manage project budget, schedule, communications and documentation.

  • Assists in the development of marketing and collateral material relating to technology services or products. Contributes to business development efforts, including calculation of cost, risk, and scope, and assist in preparation of responses to RFPs, RFIs and RFQs by providing expertise on specialized products.

  • Applies expert business skills and consulting methodologies to collect and analyze data to determine the applicability, functionality, and viability of new technologies.

  • Advocates for internal and external clients by establishing user groups and acting as a liaison between users and the technology office.

  • Supports assignments for both internal resources and external contractors to meet project requirements. Researches new and emerging technologies and assess feasibility applications to current and future business needs. Analyzes business unit activities and trends and compares analyses against service standards and best practices. Presents findings to business unit leadership and identifies and implements strategies that will address tactical and strategic goals.

  • Works with clients and technology office staff to identify, analyze, design, develop and implement fully integrated solutions of moderate complexity that support HNTB’s products, service and/or business processes.

  • Develops detailed documentation of business systems and user needs, including workflow, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify compute programs or systems.

  • Reviews use cases and other technical documents with technology office project staff to ensure business requirements are adequately reflected in technical planning. Defines, develops and implements quality assurance practices and end user test plans.

  • Ensure process, conducted and documentation accurately reflects the current status of changes and outstanding issues so that business requirements reflect application features and functions. Identifies training and development requirements of user groups and provide support when required by designing and developing training initiatives.

  • Recruits, hires, develops and retains staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession. Coordinates schedules and approves timecards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 10 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 9 years of relevant experience, or

  • In lieu of education, 14 years of relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

  • Business skills, organizational skills, and analytical skills

  • At least 3 years’ experience managing staff and leading projects

  • Deep familiarity with ESRI tools and products

  • Experience using tools such as FME or python for ETL

  • Familiarity with leveraging libraries for modeling, analysis and deep learning

  • Understanding of transportation data analysis and modeling best practices.

  • Reporting solutions such as ArcGIS Dashboards, Tableau, PowerBI or similar

What We Prefer:

  • Master’s degree or higher in project management, planning, engineering, or related technical field.

  • Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP), Project Management Professional (PMP), Scrum Master or similar certifications.
