HNTB Sr. Architectural Project Designer - Aviation (Open) in Dallas, Texas

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a Sr. Project Designer to join our dynamic team of design professionals have a passion for aviation, customer service and airport facility design. In this role you will develop design solutions for a variety of projects and coordinate the design through all project phases – conceptual design through project opening. Your role will include establishing the overall design direction, developing architectural design concepts, participating in client presentations, collaborating with others through internal design workshops, and preparing documents during the project’s design development through construction phases to ensure that the design vision is executed.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team setting, developing creative design solutions that meet the client’s criteria, serving as a resource to the Senior Project Designer, project architect and project manager as the design is developed. You will assist in the development of the entire design concept, leading the development of 2D and 3D graphics, presentations, and other collateral to convey design ideas to the client and project team.

You will have opportunities to support business development/marketing activities, participating in interview strategy sessions and assisting in the development of design concepts and winning presentations.

Responsible for interpreting client goals and program requirements needed to establish design goals and parameters on large and complex project assignments. Responsible for communication of design concepts to client and project teams. Serves as a resource to the project architect and project manager as the design is developed. Provides mentorship and guidance to individuals with less experience.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Develops creative design concepts during all phases of development.

  • Guides and directs multiple project teams to ensure the design vision and goals are maintained.

  • Strong presentation and visualization skills to communicate design ideas, including a strong ability to generate 2D/3D concepts by hand and by using a variety of computer software.

  • Engages the entire project team in design charrettes and workshops during the project, fostering a collaborative team relationship.

  • Participates in team meetings to discuss project design and technical issues.

  • Actively mentors and directs the work of younger staff in the delivery of design solutions. Develops, recognizes, recruits, and grows diverse design talent.

  • Actively promotes and incorporates sustainable design solutions, award-winning design, and collaborates with leadership to elevate the status of the firm as an industry leader.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Prior experience in a range of aviation facilities

  • Sustainability credentials strongly preferred

  • NCARB/NCIDQ certification preferred

  • Displays a high level of professionalism

  • Active participation in aviation industry events and organizations

  • Proficiency in architectural software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, and Grasshoper a plus

  • Experience with Adobe Suite products, SketchUp, InDesign, and rendering software such as 3D Studio Max, Twinmotion, Enscape, and Lumion is preferred

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred


What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides interpretation of client’s goals and programs. Prepares design concepts consistent with client’s goals, budget and schedule.

  • Works closely with the project architect and protect manager in planning and implementing all work processes.

  • Mentors and works with other team members, including those with less experience.

  • Serves as subject matter expert on architectural projects of the largest size.

  • Reviews and supervises work of less experienced architects. May act in a team lead capacity in the absence of the manager.

  • Develops and presents design viewpoint on all projects. Ensures that a design solution, consistent with the program, budget and schedule is properly developed and produced.

  • Assists with the promotion, discipline, performance review, work allocation, training and mentoring of staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or Interior Design

  • 7 years related experience

  • RA/RID
