HNTB Sr. Project Engineer - Rail Signals in Dallas, Texas

This opportunity entails being responsible for the development and modification of rail Signals/Train Control system design, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery.

Primary Focus of Role

Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project completion using current drawing and technical tools, and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients, including rail transit agency in Dallas area.

Coordinate and integrate designs with other systems disciplines and other project including systems/light rail vehicles/civil/structural/architectural disciplines

Prepare and check design drawings and/or specifications

Review and check engineering work completed by others

Perform field inspections and testing for rail signal installations.

Oversee planning, design, and construction phases of projects

Serve as technical liaison with client on project efforts

What You'll Do:

  • Uses senior-level technical expertise to consider broad range of engineering solutions.

  • Responsible for the discipline-specific planning, work distribution, and leadership and adherence to the schedule, and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Develops scope of work and level of effort and manages adherence to scope and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.

  • Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve overall project objectives on complex or unusual engineering projects.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of the project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline on complex or unusual engineering projects.

  • Leads discipline delivery on larger, multi-disciplinary projects. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work for other disciplines on multi-discipline projects on complex or unusual engineering projects

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Develop concept design for the LRT signal system modernization project.

  • Design experience including ATC train control systems layout design, ABS/Cab signal block design, microprocessor and relay- based signaling and interlockings, as well as highway crossing warning systems

  • Experienced in the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, and cost estimation

  • Experienced in signal system construction support including field verification, inspections, and testing

  • Experience with signaling equipment including Coded Track Circuits, AF Track Circuits, Crossing Predictors, ElectrologIXS® and MicroLok® Interlocking Processors preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work well in a multi-location team environment

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

What We Prefer:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering

  • 10 years of relevant experience

  • PE preferred (TX) or ability to obtain

  • Ability to work full time in the Dallas area
