HNTB Senior Transportation Project Manager in Glen Allen, Virginia

What We're Looking For

The time is now to join HNTB! We're seeking a Senior Transportation Project Manager in our Richmond or other Virginia offices.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • The Senior Transportation Program Manager is responsible for business development, technical quality oversight and program delivery.

  • As a program manager, the successful candidate will develop client consensus and sustain key relationships with clients to build alliances.

  • As a leader in client development, the successful candidate will also serve as a contact internally and externally for foundation clients in the region, participate in strategic business planning efforts, and support regional transportation consulting. A high level of client interaction at all levels ranging from executive to technical is expected.

  • As a technical leader, the successful candidate will coordinate with clients and staff to align client vision and needs with work programs and budgets and provide leadership in project planning and strategy including general oversight and planning, project management, project implementation, and ensuring quality of work products.

  • The successful candidate will also support staff development through delegation, mentoring, recruitment, and evaluation. In addition he/she will coordinate with office leaders regarding marketing budgets, goal setting, staffing, recruiting, and project coordination.

  • This position reports to the department manager and works collaboratively with local, regional and firm-wide discipline and market sector leaders.

  • Supports major national pursuits as time allows.

  • The successful candidate will coordinate with clients and staff to define annual or other periodic work programs and budgets, provide leadership in project planning and strategy including general oversight and planning, project management, project implementation, and ensuring quality of work products, including the production of design plans, specifications, and estimates for highway improvement and repair/rehabilitation projects.

  • The successful candidate also is responsible for:

  • functioning as owner’s representative in developing, advertising, letting, and administering construction contracts;

  • bringing innovative solutions to the development of work products associated with design, construction, operation and maintenance of highway infrastructure;

  • developing estimates fees for professional services, solicit competitive bids for vendor services, develop scopes of work, prepare proposals and contracts on large transportation projects;

  • actively manage client budgets, schedules and programs; HNTB budget and schedule; project communications and documentation; and,

  • being attentive and responsive to client needs, directives, and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline plus a minimum of 15 years of experience in the design, management, and construction of civil transportation projects.

  • Must possess a Virginia Professional Engineer license or be able to obtain a license within the three months of hiring.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary A/E environment is required.

  • Experience on work assignments involving co-location with the client is preferred.

  • Consultant/advisory engineering experience with infrastructure and urban expressway systems preferred.

  • Relationships with regional transportation agencies operating in Virginia a strong plus.

  • Tolling experience a strong plus.

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.

  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.

  • Provides oversight and monitoring of work to less experienced project managers. Coordinates work efforts and review work performed. Schedules and manages for integration of quality management during all phases of a project.

  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 16 years relevant experience

  • 6 years project management experience
