HNTB Traffic Engineer in Grand Rapids, Michigan

What We're Looking For

For more than 25 years, the HNTB Michigan offices have planned, designed, and delivered some of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in Michigan. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to some of the most transformational transportation projects throughout Michigan.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Contributes to the successful pursuit and delivery of traffic engineering, transportation planning, and/or emerging mobility projects, including:

  • Capacity analyses, traffic modeling/simulation, feasibility studies, operational studies, safety studies, traffic volume forecasting, and traffic signal warrant studies

  • Traffic signal design, optimization, and advanced signal systems

  • Maintenance of traffic, pavement marking, and signing plans

  • Develops plans, details, specifications, and cost estimates for traffic engineering projects.

  • Analyzes emerging transportation technology impacts on operations and planning.

  • Lead traffic tasks and project planning under multi-disciplined projects.

  • Coaching and mentoring of project team members.

  • Meet schedule milestones, budget constraints and quality benchmarks on assigned projects.

  • Coordinates with clients during project development and implementation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 6 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Licensed Michigan Professional Engineer (P.E.) or the ability to obtain within the next six months

  • Experience working with the Michigan Department of Transportation

  • Experience delivering traffic projects

  • Experience with staff oversight


What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Guides team to overall project objectives.

  • Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Assists with project management duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 6 years relevant experience
