HNTB Engineer III in Houston, Texas

What We're Looking For

A motivated professional wanting to advance their career by taking on challenging and rewarding project assignments. This team member will serve as project manager in executing duties to achieve timely completion of disaster recovery and/or bond funded infrastructure projects in accordance with federal and local guidelines, scope and allotted budget. The selected candidate will be provided with an exciting opportunity to coordinate subdivision drainage projects from inception to completion, working closely with a senior project manager, design consultant, and various disciplines and task leads to achieve timely completion of projects. This opportunity is like no other in that you will be able to learn about many aspects of delivering civil and structural projects, while perfecting your skills as a project manager. Tasks to be performed can include but not be limited to consultant negotiations, project scheduling, coordination, reporting, plan review, budget analysis, document controls and other duties necessary for the efficient and quality focused delivery of projects.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Works with many disciplines and stakeholders such as design consultants, contractors, client resources and others to ensure that projects are coordinated to achieve completion on time, on budget, with quality to the client's satisfaction.

  • Communicates with management, elected officials and/or their staffs about project issues, challenges and accomplishments.

  • Responsible for oversight of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, plans, specifications and estimates.

  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Proactively identifies issues and then works with management to mitigate risks and challenges to enable the project to proceed timely.

  • Leading/managing assigned projects/team.

  • Negotiating with design consultants/contractors.

  • Serving as coordination lead with stakeholders.

  • Coordinating with consultant engineers, utility coordinators, right of way coordinators and construction observers.

  • Managing project contracts/schedules/budgets.

  • Coordinating project adherence to design standards.

  • Developing reports and updates.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • PE or EIT

  • PMP

  • ENV SP

  • Ability to read and understand plans, specifications and estimates

  • Ability to negotiate with consultants and contractors

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Strong organization skills

  • Ability to move projects forward to be completed on schedule

This position may be funded with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds, which are subject to compliance with Section 3. Section 3 is a provision of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968 (24 CFR 135.5), and in accordance with those regulations, new job opportunities generated by HUD funding must be directed toward low and very-low income persons to the greatest extent feasible.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 5 years relevant experience
