Overview

The time is right to join HNTB! We are seeking candidates for the position of Bridge Engineer III in our Indianapolis, IN office.

Job Summary

Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

Essential Responsibility

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.

  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities and cost estimates

  • Resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate design and field engineering difficulties and coordinate schedules

  • Assist with single and multi-discipline structural engineering projects and develop cost-effective design solutions

  • Work as part of a team of engineers in the execution of project design, plan production and bridge inspections on both small and large projects

  • Provide technical guidance to project team members, including other engineers and technical support staff

  • Prepare and check design drawings and/or specifications

  • Review and check engineering work completed by others

  • Assist with planning, design and construction phases of projects

  • Produce and review technical reports

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

5 years relevant experience

EIT

Preferred Qualification/Skills

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred

  • Indiana PE license

  • Experience on INDOT bridge projects

  • Experience using bridge design and analysis software such as CSI Bridge, CONSPAN, RC-Pier, MDX or similar programs

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, MathCAD and Microstation or AutoCAD

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Familiarity with INDOT and AASHTO design criteria

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
