HNTB Bridge Inspection Project Engineer in Lawrenceville, New Jersey
What We're Looking For
The time is right to join HNTB as Project Engineer Bridge Inspection at our Parsippany, NJ office.
Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts. Responsible for gross revenue of <$1M.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Perform and supervise bridge inspection services including scheduling, inspections, report writing and review and database management
Develop project inspection and safety criteria, loadrating calculations, and estimating National Bridge Element quantities and costs
Cost control on projects and quality control within bridge discipline
Resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate structuraldeficiencies and field engineering difficulties and coordinate schedules
Manage single and multi-discipline structural bridge inspection projects
Provide technical guidance and mentoring of project team members, including other engineers and technical support staff such as (Assistant Team Leaders and CADD techs)
Lead a small team of engineers in the execution of bridge inspection and production on both small and large projects
Prepare and check condition survey drawings and/or specifications
Review and check engineering work completed by others
Oversee planning and inspection phases of projects
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
PE licensure in the states of NJ and NY
Bridge inspection experience preferably with local agencies such as PANY&NJ, NJ Transit, NJTA and/or NJDOT
Successful completion of FHWA National Institute's 4 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges within the last 5 years
Successful completion of FHWA National Institute's 2 week training course "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges" including 5 year refresher training as needed.
Experience with NJDOT Combis, InspecTech and/or NYSDOT BDIS database packages preferred
Physically capable of performing continuous field work including working at heights, within confined spaces, using specialized bridge inspection access equipment, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, and working alongside highways and/or railroads using traffic and railroad flagging protection services as needed, etc.
OSHA 10 hour certification preferred

Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence the to the schedule and budget on projects.
Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.
Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.
Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.
Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience
Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience
PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience
