We are seeking candidates for the position of Highway Engineer III in our Parsippany, Cherry Hill or Lawrenceville, NJ offices. We are looking for a highly creative and motivated engineer with NJDOT, NJTA and/or NJ Transit design experience and who is knowledgeable in MicroStation and InRoads design software. This position is responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position works closely with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge, experience and client relationships to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Leading roadway/highway design for transportation projects.
Developing concept development, preliminary and final design plans for the NJ Department of Transportation.
Coordinates the preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.
Helps supervise, schedule and check work of project team members.
Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Responsible for productivity of subordinates and on time, on budget projects and quality control within discipline.
Completeness and accuracy of design teamwork.
Technical liaison with client for work within the discipline.
Responsible for production of roadway, grading, traffic signal, pavement marking plans, traffic control, quantities, cost estimates, construction administration and final specifications.
Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, developing fee proposal scope/fee hours, and distribution of work within discipline.
Develops geometric layouts, profiles, and cross sections for infrastructure projects
Creates 3D surface models using InRoads for computing earthwork, developing cross sections, and grading plans.
Participate in project marketing, work planning, scope development and fee estimating
Active participation in professional societies such as ASCE, ACEC, ASHE, WTS, ITE. Preferred Qualifications and Skills
NJDOT, NJTA, NJ Transit and/or county transportation experience
Experience in traffic signal, signing and striping layout and design
Experience in traditional and alternative project delivery
MicroStation, InRoads and/or OpenRoads and/or Concept Station a plus
Bluebeam Revu experience a plus
Active engagement in local professional and/or civic organizations
Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification Master’s degree in Engineering
What You'll Need

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience
Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 year of relevant experience
PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience

Independently progresses the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.
Exhibits experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and MicroStation and/or AutoCad.
Exhibits a thorough understanding of the application related to engineering, geometric and algebraic principles.
Manages time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.
