HNTB Construction Management - Practice Builder in Madison, Wisconsin

What We're Looking For

Responsible for direction, supervision and growth of construction management practice group in Wisconsin, which currently consists of approximately 10 employees. Directs project priorities, staff recruitment, staffing schedules and staffing assignments to ensure clients are provided the best capabilities to meet their needs. Accountability includes timely and satisfactory completion of construction projects, assuring satisfactory client service, key field position staffing, project plans, objectives setting, performance evaluation, and related management activities. Also responsible to marketing to strategic clients, including maintaining and developing client relationships. Must have an in-depth knowledge of current practices, procedures and priorities related to major Wisconsin transportation and infrastructure organizations.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Oversee project management activities, including the work of various project managers as well as the development of project scope, schedule, budget and quality management for the entire group.

  • Develop a strategy and vision to grow the construction management practice in Wisconsin; develop a construction management plan or plans, around the following core areas:

  • Develop client and project pursuit strategies

  • Train, develop and grow existing staff

  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships and teaming opportunities

  • Hire and manage staff project placement

  • Create a timeline for growth

  • Identify key investments needed

  • Implement construction management plan:

  • Lead the construction management group

  • Coordinate closely with the Office Leader and other departments (Traffic, Transportation and Planning) on staffing needs

  • Coordinate with the local client service teams on existing and future opportunities

  • Coordinate with the Great Lakes Division and national construction management resources as needed

  • Maintain and develop client relationships including obtaining client feedback on staff performance

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development, monitoring, and management of the department's operating budget in support of the group or office operating budget and forecast updates.

  • Responsible for the management, growth, and professional development of discipline-specific engineering department. Coordinates department activities, establishes priorities, and assign staff to projects. Ensures staff development, mentoring, and training needs are being met. Collaborates with other departments or groups within the office on work-sharing needs and opportunities.

  • Supports the implementation of the firm's strategic plan and HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) process on project pursuits in the department and office, including development of department-level strategic planning strategies.

  • Supports the implementation of the firm's contracting HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA) process through project delivery and contracting activities including scope, work plan, and fee reviews for all contracting activities impacting the department.

  • Supports the implementation of the firm's project delivery HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) process including Work Planning, Monthly Project Reviews, and other project performance methods to ensure quality work, on time, on schedule, to the client's satisfaction.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win-to-work activities

  • Maintains client contacts to ensure client satisfaction. Leads and assists in sales and marketing efforts for department's growth.

  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of department staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.

  • Project Delivery - Actively manages assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget, and quality management) and performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation.

  • Typically responsible for up to 20 direct and indirect reports.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or relevant degree and 10 years relevant experience.

  • In lieu of education, 14 years of relevant experience.
