HNTB Engineer I - Utility Coordination in Madison, Wisconsin
What We're Looking For
Responsible for the completion of various utility coordination tasks to achieve necessary project utility clearances for highway infrastructure projects. Major elements of work include developing and maintaining utility base mapping, project plan reviews, utility conflict resolution meeting assistance, meeting material preparation, correspondence tracking, and communicating progress effectively. Effectively communicate with all parties involved in highway infrastructure projects to report utility coordination progress and risk. Will need to deliver quality work, on time, on budget, and to the client’s satisfaction on every project.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Plotting of existing utilities in 2D and 3D in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and similar platforms.
Identification of utility conflicts within proposed highway infrastructure projects, assisting with conflict resolution planning, and monitoring resolution progress.
Preparation of meeting materials including but not limited to agendas, attendance sheets, meeting minutes, and exhibits for project coordination meetings.
Tracking action items and requests for information and completing associated follow up.
Preparing and packaging utility construction permits for submission to Municipal and State Agencies.
Building and maintaining relationships with the Project Team, Stakeholders, Clients, and Utility Companies to drive success of projects.
Effectively communicating with Project Managers, Risk Managers, and Schedulers regularly to report utility coordination status and report risks to project scope, schedule, and budget.
Performing other activities as assigned.
Assists with utility coordination process including verifying completeness of utility contact lists, preparing utility notification documents, reviewing and filing utility responses, tracking status of utility coordination, and communicating new utility information to the project team.
Develops and maintains utility base maps in CAD software based on surveyed data, utility system maps, and other information received from utilities.
Participates in project meetings and prepares meeting minutes.
Performs site visits as needed to verify utilities and progress of utility relocation work.
Utilizes computer aided drafting, design software, and various other computer software packages in the preparation of construction details, design plans, reports, and meeting exhibits.
Transfers information in numerical, written and sketched, or electronic format from sources such as legal descriptions, survey data, aerial photographs, and computer files to final plans and maps.
Develops and implements custom automated drafting and design procedures under supervision.
Identifies errors, problems, or non-standard situations and suggests alternatives.
Assists in the evaluation of new drafting /design procedures and/or software.
Visualizes and illustrates concept or designs in 2 or 3 dimensions. Utilize mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT)
2 years relevant experience on projects for Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) or other state DOTs and Local Agencies
Experience in the use of MicroStation, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and ProjectWise
Experience with utility conflict coordination, highway construction inspection, and engineering
Proficient in the terminology and symbols used in survey notes, plans, shop drawings, aerial photographs, and maps related to a specific Engineering sub-type
