HNTB Transportation Planner II in Madison, Wisconsin

What We're Looking For

Responsible for assisting in organizing, analyzing and summarizing traffic data in support of traffic planning and engineering tasks for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, analysis and documentation in partnership with the project team. Develops traffic modeling and forecasting tools and corresponding documentation to support the project execution using available or developed technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

Primary Focus Will Include:​

  • Travel demand model development and application to support traffic forecasts, traffic operations model and safety analysis.

  • Conduct traffic planning and engineering tasks in support of larger infrastructure planning and design projects including:

  • Traffic data collection, review and analysis

  • Travel demand model development, refinement and analysis

  • Toll diversion and revenue analysis

  • Traffic capacity analysis

  • Traffic operations analysis including microsimulation

  • Documentation and presentation of methods and findings

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3 years of relevant experience working with travel demand models

  • 1+ years of experience in developing traffic forecasts

  • 1+ years of experience using travel demand model and traffic forecasting data for assessing transportation alternative improvements

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Transportation Planning

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.

  • Identifies planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios and perform project analysis.

  • Investigates and evaluates the planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.

  • Coordinates internally and externally with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.

  • Prepares maps, exhibits, and presentation materials for projects.

  • Conducts research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning.

  • Assists in the development of conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects.

  • Drafts sections of and performs tasks related to the preparation and production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.

  • May participate in public process and stakeholder facilitation.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 2 years of relevant experience

  • Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 1 year of relevant experience
