HNTB Senior Environmental Planner in Midvale, Utah

What We're Looking For

HNTB has a focus on transportation, and works to provide local, regional, and state-wide connectivity solutions for our public agency clients. We are looking for a full-time senior planner and environmental analyst with experience navigating complex planning, environmental, and decision-making processes to join our team in Denver, Colorado to support major transportation infrastructure projects across the northwest. The ideal candidate will have experience working on complex transportation-related environmental planning projects in Colorado, Utah, Oregon, and/or Washington and with agencies such as state DOTs, FHWA, FRA, FTA, and/or FAA. Additionally, we are looking for someone with proven experience in task management, including schedule and budget, as well as team management. The person in this position will work with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams comprised of internal HNTB peers, clients, and subconsultants.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Supporting growth of environmental practice by actively participating in multiple client service teams and delivering

  • Leading environmental planning and permitting processes and document preparation for transportation and transit clients

  • Coordinating with project team members, clients, and subconsultants on technical work

  • Assisting in the preparation of scope, schedule, and budget for new projects and responding to RFPs with similar information

Job Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Serving as project manager and/or technical lead for a variety of transportation projects during conceptual planning and design through environmental approvals and permitting.

  • Developing documents that meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, and Section 404/401 of the Clean Water Act, and Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.

  • Preparing technical plans, studies, written reports, and environmental documents in support of environmental permitting and approvals for transportation and other projects.

  • Collaborating with transportation planning, engineering, urban design/landscape design, and other disciplines.

  • Performing quality reviews of deliverables to client requirements to ensure high-quality products are produced on time and budget.

  • Preparing and managing scope, schedule, and budget for a variety of environmental transportation projects across the office and division.

  • Coordinating with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis.

  • Preparing for and conducting public and agency involvement activities.

  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with various levels of agency personnel.

  • Providing guidance and support to less experienced staff on technical and professional issues.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 10 years of related experience OR

  • Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 8 years of related experience

  • Mastery of Microsoft 365 products to perform assigned tasks.

  • ESRI ArcGIS skills preferred but not required.

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leads aspects of internal and external coordination with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.

  • Leads client meetings, participates in client meetings and interactions.

  • Conducts or directs research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning, and formulates recommendations.

  • Leads planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.

  • Prepares graphics, technical reports, fee proposals, and responses to Request for Proposals for planning projects.

  • Creates project presentation materials, concepts, graphics, and reports to the client and community groups.

  • Responsible for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation. Conducts public meetings/hearings/community workshops and interfaces with client groups and community stakeholders.

  • Coordinates with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.

  • Provides work direction and leads Planners and support staff on assigned projects.

  • Coordinates the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP’s for projects.

  • Develops and maintains client meetings and interactions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering or related field and 8 years of relevant experience

  • Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 7 years of relevant experience

Pay Range for Denver, CO: $90,427.38 - $141,437.70

  • Actual Compensation will be dependent upon the individual's qualifications, skills and experience as well as physical work location within the state.
