HNTB Noise Analyst II in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

What We're Looking For

This position could be based anywhere in the country while working within our Great Lakes Division team.

Come join our Noise and Environmental Planning group. You’ll have an opportunity to work with an outstanding team on some of the largest, most complex, and exciting transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the country. As part of our team, you will perform all aspects of noise analyses for a range of project types and clients. You will be responsible for the design and technical aspects of noise projects and will have opportunities to contribute to task assignee duties and business development. The position is primarily focused on data collection, modeling and reporting for noise analyses in the transportation sector. Air quality experience is a plus, but not a requirement for this position.

This position could be based anywhere in the country while working within our Great Lakes Practice.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Conducts transportation noise studies for highway and transit projects and formulates the results into concise, well-written documents.

  • Attends meetings with clients and responsible agencies and assists with preparation of noise analysis methods and results.

  • Participates as a subject matter contributor in public involvement activities including discussing noise analysis findings with the public and making presentations at public meetings.

  • Assists with federal, state and local regulatory agency coordination.

Additional essential responsibilities include:

  • Finalizes production of environmental documents, transportation plans and reports.

  • Coordinates with sub-consultants and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.

  • May oversee the work of less experienced staff

  • Uses technical software to perform project analysis.

  • Assist in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFP’s.

  • Final production of graphics associated with public meetings, presentation drawings, reports, etc.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 4 years related experience or 2 years related experience with Master’s degree in related field

  • Bachelor’s degree in Acoustics, Planning, Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field

  • Experience in highway or transit noise analysis and modeling is required.

  • Experience in the use of FHWA and FTA noise modeling and related tools, including Traffic Noise Model (TNM), ArcGIS, MicroStation, and transit noise and vibration impact assessment.

  • Experience analyzing data to perform noise analyses.

  • Experience with the EPA MOVES3 or MOVES2014a (MOVES) and CAL3QHC 2.0 (CAL3QHC) air quality modeling tools is desirable but not required.

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes the design plan and identifies deliverables.

  • Compiles and analyzes data associated with multi-disciplines and proposes technical solutions. Collects raw data, organizes, researches, and applies recognized tools of analysis to provide comprehensive review of the data.

  • Prepares graphics, technical reports, fee proposals, and responses to Request for Proposals for planning projects.

  • Assists in the creation and presentation of project presentation materials, concepts, graphics and reports to the client and community groups.

  • May attend project team meeting with some client interaction and project consultants. Responsible for documenting meeting minutes, correspondences, and other forms related to projects within scope.

  • Assists in directing small-scale planning projects and portions of larger projects from concept development through submission drawings.

  • Coordinates with sub-consultants and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks. Some contact with clients.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering or related field and 2 years of relevant experience

  • Master's Degree Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 1 year of experience

Competencies:

  • Understands how to operate Microsoft Office Suite and client-specific programs with little guidance from more experienced staff.

  • Gains knowledge of environmental laws (i.e., NEPA, local, state, and federal) and ensures legal compliance when writing documents and working with the client, with guidance from more experienced staff.

  • Understands the scoping and budgeting process.

  • Prepares environmental review documents with guidance from more experienced staff.

  • Communicates effectively by developing and delivering communications that convey a clear understanding of the project needs as guided by the Task Lead or Project Manager.

  • Actively learns through experimentation when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning opportunities.

  • Uses resiliency to rebound from setbacks and adversity when facing difficult situations.

  • Utilizes current technological innovations for completing more complex assignments.
