HNTB Transportation Drainage Department Manager in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

What We're Looking For

Manages and leads a group of approximately 10 drainage focused professionals both in their career development and technical aspects of project delivery. Projects range from being solely drainage focused to drainage being an integral part to a multi-discipline project scope on some of the largest transportation projects in the state of Wisconsin and throughout the U.S. Responsible for business development, project delivery, as well as staff growth, engagement and mentorship in all aspects of the department. Will require coordination with other project managers, and department heads to ensure workloads and staffing are balanced to ultimately drive sales and a quality/on-time product to our clients either within Wisconsin or other states. Candidate will provide oversight or be directly involved in all aspects of the business including the development of design criteria, workplans, contracts, fee estimates, schedules, quality reviews, plan preparation, change management plans, and client management. Role will be required to lead a team or serve as lead designer to coach and mentor junior staff. Role will require direct client coordination for management of drainage focused projects and tasks. Knowledge of Bentley and AutoDesk products is preferred for plan preparation, drainage and hydraulic modeling, and interdisciplinary review. Background in green and sustainable infrastructure solutions, with LEED certification project history preferred. Candidate is required to have excellent written and oral communication skills to manage projects, staff, clients and communicate effectively with the senior office management team and project managers.   • Direct people management as Department Manager for HNTB Wisconsin’s transportation drainage practice

  • Oversight, mentorship, and coaching (both technical and business development) of 10 drainage focused staff to help assist them in career advancement

  • Business and strategic growth plan development

  • Work within office management team to manage backlog, staffing assignments, and growth opportunities for staff

  • Lead drainage tasks on complex multi-discipline civil and transportation focused projects (criteria development, existing condition review, reports, design, construction specifications, plan prep, quality reviews)

  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction through effective communication and change management

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project

  • Develops proposals, contracts, scope and fee for local and nationwide clients

  • Coordinates work efforts and reviews of work performed by project team. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Leading (Managerial and Technical) the water resources/drainage group and design elements associated with the group.

  • Project work to include roadway, train guideway, flood management, site, and civil designs.

  • Management of staff backlog, business development, and client management

  • Production of design packages, quantities, cost estimates, and construction.

  • Completeness and accuracy of teams design and calculations

  • Interdisciplinary design reviews

  • Technical liaison with client for worth within the discipline.

  • Performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specification and plan preparation to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.

  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.

  • Coordinates work efforts and reviews of work performed by project team. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 12 years relevant experience

  • 4 years project management experience
