HNTB Traffic and Data Engineering Specialist in Nashville, Tennessee

The candidate will be working within HNTB's Traffic Operations and Safety Team as well as other technology teams comprised of business analysts, GIS developers, planners, and engineers, this team works on the most complex transportation and data decision support building projects in the transportation industry. The successful candidate must be a creative problem solver and use a variety of off-the-shelf and/or custom solutions to deliver projects in efficient, innovative manners. The types of projects we work on involve traffic engineering data and safety data that involve the use and creation of Microsoft BI, SQL server, enterprise GIS solutions/applications, and complex databases; these solutions integrate with HNTB client's server and data warehouses to support and develop digital innovation solutions and engineering decision support system.

Leverages technical knowledge and experience to assist in the execution and evaluation of project solutions. Develops mock-up systems and calculations to support the project execution using current systems and technical tools, programs, and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

What You'll Do:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.

  • Responsible for preparation and/or modification for select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.

  • Develops project quantities and assists with development of cost estimates.

  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.

  • Able to self-sufficiently complete various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Exhibits proficiency in applying traffic engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles in your work.

  • Displays proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Simulation Software, and other software as required for job assignments.

  • Experience in applying engineering knowledge using Python development experience.

  • Experience with developing a collecting user needs on various engineering solutions to apply engineering knowledge.

  • Understanding of ArcGIS REST API’s for ArcGIS Online and Server / Portal.

  • Understanding and exposure to various databases such as Oracle or SQL Server; developing and configuring web services for data exchange.

  • Applied knowledge of Transportation Engineering Standards such as MUTCD, Design Standards, Traffic Engineering fundamentals, ITS design standards, etc.

  • Perform data analytics using safety and traffic operations data with tools such as Excel, SAS, Python, SQL, machine learning, etc.

  • Knowledge of transportation simulation software such as HCS, VISSIM, Synchro, etc.

  • Develop presentations, white papers, reports, performance measures reports, and data reports.

  • Develop countermeasures and applications/algorithms for safety applications.

  • Work in the multimodal transportation systems - freight, transit, ped-bike, and cars

  • Working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Develop GIS-based solutions and mapping.

  • Develop detailed managerial dashboards using various tools such as Excel, Tableau, MS BI, Python, etc.

  • Understand and consult the client on their needs and collect user needs to develop solutions.

What We Prefer:

  • Master's degree in Engineering

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification

  • Knowledgeable in Data Science in Traffic Engineering
