HNTB Aviation Engineering PM / Local Practice Lead in Oakland, California

What We're Looking For

HNTB’s West Division Aviation Team has an exciting opportunity for significant career growth for a self-motivated Airfield Engineering Project Manager in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate will lead existing aviation projects in the Bay Area, assist with projects throughout Southern California and Nevada, and serve as a practice builder for strengthening existing relationships and cultivating new ones. The candidate should be very familiar with airfield and landside engineering projects at medium- and large-hub airports, P-401 and P-501 pavement design, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AviPLAN, mentoring junior staff, and business development activities.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA). Leads or actively participates in client contract scoping and negotiations.

  • Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Leads client contract scoping and negotiations.

  • Performs technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Responsible for/oversees project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.

  • Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for mini-mega and mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic, mini-mega, and mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.

  • May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience

  • 2 years of successful management of engineering projects

As an Aviation Project Manager, the successful candidate will lead and support the planning, design, and construction of multi-disciplinary aviation engineering projects. The candidate should have exceptional analytical capabilities, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a record of successful project aviation project delivery.

Primary Focus will Include:

  • Manage and deliver aviation engineering for medium and large multi-discipline projects

  • Design work involves airport engineering projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, vehicle service roads, airfield lighting and signage installation, navigational aids, drainage improvements, utility relocation and protection, and pavement rehabilitation.

  • Client and business development to grow the aviation engineering market in the Bay Area

  • Coordinate with Aviation Planning and Architecture business lines to cross-sell and deliver projects

  • Grow staff and services in the Bay Area

  • Help deliver significant backlog of projects in Southern California and Nevada

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 12 years relevant experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification

The approximate pay range for California is $152,983.53 - $277,700.33. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
