HNTB Senior Project Engineer in Parsippany, New Jersey
What We're Looking For
Responsible for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) planning, design, and traffic operations. This position is to perform traffic analysis, planning, and manage traffic operations at the Port Authority of NY&NJ’s Agency Operations Center (PA-AOC) in Jersey City, NJ. Leverages technical knowledge and an understanding of traffic operations and incident management. This requires problem solving, developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and working closely with PANY&NJ traffic engineering and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). Responsibilities will be for on-site management of the PA-AOC and traffic design, planning, and assistance with HNTB ITS and traffic engineers. As a member of the team, you will contribute to successful planning and development on a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients. This position is for part-time minimum 20 hours per week.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Management of the PANY&NJ’s Agency Operations Center
Planning and design assistance on ITS and Traffic design projects
Assistance with Concept of Operations (ConOps) studies and report development
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Traffic Engineering
5 years’ minimum experience in a Director of Traffic Operations role
Familiarity with Advanced Transportation Management Software (ATMS)
Experience in the use of T-Rex (formerly OpenReach)

Responsible for the discipline-specific planning, work distribution, and leadership and adherence to the schedule, and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
Develops scope of work and level of effort and manages adherence to scope and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.
Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.
Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve overall project objectives on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Coordinates technical aspects of the project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Leads discipline delivery on larger, multi-disciplinary projects. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work for other disciplines on multi-discipline projects on complex or unusual engineering projects
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience
Master’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience
PhD in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience
