The time is right to join HNTB! HNTB Corporation is currently seeking a CEI Roadway/Bridge Inspector III to join our Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) Department in various North Carolina cities.
Responsible for providing daily inspection of multiple, complex activities within a given discipline/trade performed by the contractor in order to monitor the project compliance with plans, specifications and other contract provisions. Maintains daily logs of inspection work which is assigned and reviews discrepancies or changes with Field Engineer. Performs non-routine and moderately complex assignments normally related to multiple and/or medium to large projects.
Monitors work of Contractor against reviewed Project Schedule.
Participates in on-site training of staff.
Produces As-Constructed sketches as required.
Reads and comprehends contract documents.
Keeps Inspector's Daily Report of assigned work activities.
Performs on-site material testing.
Performs measurements of completed work to date.
Performs complicated mathematical calculations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
3 years construction related experience
All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements
Licensed to drive and possess a record of safe driving required
Must have at least 1 of the following NCDOT certifications or other current DOT certifications to include:
Concrete Field Technician,
Level II Erosion & Sediment Control/Stormwater
QMS Roadway Technician
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 1 year of construction engineering and inspections (CEI) experience; OR a degree in Civil Engineering Technology and 3 years of construction engineering and inspections (CEI) experience;
OR a High School Diploma plus 5 years of construction engineering and inspections (CEI) experience;
Experience maintaining detailed records; perform required materials testing;
Experience with NCDOT inspection/testing requirements and procedures preferred
Candidate should have experience in the inspection of asphalt, concrete, earthwork, and/or structures.
Working knowledge of NCDOT construction methods, materials, standards and specifications preferred.
Experience communicating effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
Must have working knowledge of computers, software programs and field inspection equipment.
A self-motivated individual with initiative.
Able to take on an active role within a diverse group of contractors, sub-contractors, utility representatives, stakeholders and peers.
General Work Conditions
Field Environment: Work is frequently performed in a field environment in which there is consistent exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
Work frequently requires working at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in a field environment. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment, and doing extensive walking.
Depending on the specific project, the job may require climbing to various elevations, ability to bend, twist and turn in close clearances, and crawl into confined spaces to perform required work. Select jobs may require work near heavy construction equipment, railroad right of ways, bridges, construction sites, tunnels and airport runways. Work environment may require use of construction/inspection safety equipment including fall equipment. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
