The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! We are currently seeking a Hydraulics Engineer II in our Raleigh, NC office.
Assists assigned department by performing engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery on assigned project(s).
Contributes to the preparation or modification of reports, plans and designs for projects.
Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Contributes to the preparation of hydrologic/hydraulic studies, develop reports, and design/analyze drainage systems for preliminary and final design.
Participating in the collection and analysis of data
Performing investigative analyses toward completion of assigned design tasks
Developing and checking design calculations
Assisting in the preparation of design drawings and/or specifications
Developing plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good engineering practice
Calculating quantities and developing cost estimates
Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
2 years relevant experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering
At least 2 years of hydraulic and hydrology design experience
Proficient in MicroStation and experience utilizing the Geopak Drainage module
Familiarity with NCDOT drainage design guidelines and criteria
Proficient with HEC-RAS, HY-8, SWMM and HEC-22.
NCDOT Erosion and Sediment Control Level III Certification
Experience developing environmental permit plans and applications for stream and wetland impacts preferred

Complete work accurately and in accordance with good engineering codes and practice
Effectively communicate and coordinate with other more experienced engineers
Multi-task and communicate schedule and progress on assigned tasks
Be energetic, self-directed, and success focused
Strong written and oral communications skills are required.
General Work Conditions
Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
