The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! HNTB is currently seeking a Project Manager I to join our Planning group in either our Raleigh or Charlotte, NC offices.
This position would be responsible for managing planning projects and responsible for assigning tasks to project team members for larger projects, primarily in support of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The applicant would work on multiple projects and interact with all levels of staff. The applicant must have a thorough knowledge of highway engineering planning, design, and construction practices and principles. As a mid-level professional position, the applicant would apply their academic and past work experience and knowledge on a wide variety of planning projects. An applicant would work directly with clients, and would be responsible for going to meetings with clients and project stakeholders, as well as interacting with internal and external experts in their field of expertise. This position involves some oversight of junior staff.
Manages small-scale urban design, landscape architecture and/or planning projects and may be responsible for assigning tasks to project team for larger projects.
Responsible for the coordination of administrative aspects of the project to ensure that projects assigned are completed within the schedule and budget and to the client’s satisfaction.
Serves as primary point-of-contact with client and other project consultants.
Estimates fees, determines work scope and prepares proposals and contracts for small-scale projects.
Coordinates with and involves project designers and project technical staff.
Manages client budget, schedule and program and HNTB budget and schedule.
Manages project communications and documentation.
Reviews work of other project team members for accuracy and completeness.
Coordinates and communicates regularly with group director and office leader on progress of projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ensures compliance under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and North Carolina State Environmental Policy Act (NC SEPA).
Plans and leads public meetings.
Developing clear, concise environmental documentation
Works with federal, state and local government clients as assigned.
Helps supervise, schedule and check work of project team members.
Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Responsible for productivity of subordinates and on time, on budget projects.
Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Planning, Architecture or related field
6 years related experience
4 years related experience (with Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Planning, Architecture or related field)
Experience with projects involving NEPA or NC SEPA.
Preference for experience working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Working experience in transportation planning
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) or American Institute of Certified (AICP) in NC
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including ability to prioritize and multi-task under strict deadlines.
Strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability succeed with new and challenging tasks.
Sets challenging and measurable and sustainable goals in collaboration with Transportation Planning Manager.
Identifies and meets the needs of clients within established guidelines.
Understands task expectations and how tasks fit in the overall project.
Works collaboratively with project team and client to achieve established goals.
Organizes written work in a manner that is clear, easy to follow, and tailored for the intended audience.
General Work Conditions
Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
