HNTB Project Engineer - Rail Signal & Systems in Rocky Hill, Connecticut

HNTB is seeking an Engineer III with a focus towards rail/transit project to work out of our Rocky Hill office. The Project Engineer will be a part of the Rail department and will collaborate with project teams working on designs involving rail, track and interlocks.

This opportunity entails being responsible for the production and modification of rail signals/train control system design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence the to the schedule and budget on projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

What We Prefer:

  • 10 years of relevant experience

  • PE preferred (CT, NY, MA, PA) or ability to obtain

  • Design experience including ATC train control systems layout design, ABS/Cab signal block design, microprocessor and relay- based signaling and interlockings, as well as highway crossing warning systems

  • Experienced in the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, and cost estimation

  • Experienced in rail signal system construction support including field verification, inspections, and testing

  • Experience with rail signaling equipment including Coded Track Circuits, AF Track Circuits, Crossing Predictors, ElectrologIXS® and MicroLok® Interlocking Processors

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work well in a multi-location team environment

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

The approximate pay range for Connecticut is $97,575.45 - $166,492.37. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
