HNTB Senior Transportation Planner/Engineer in Santa Ana, California

What We're Looking For

Directs the technical production of planning assignments and teams. Coordinates with project manager, project designer and other disciplines on multiple large scale and complex transportation planning projects to ensure that the client's technical requirements of projects are fully met. May serve as a Project Manager on a limited basis for select medium and large scale projects. Regular task assignee on multiple projects.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Experience working on planning documents such as alternative analyses or project reports for complex transit and transportation projects.

  • Support planning and engineering efforts through use of transportation planning and engineering principles.

  • Strong project management, organization, coordination, and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Experience in client management, subconsultant management, and maintaining positive working relationships with clients.

  • Coordinates with clients to define work programs and budgets, provide leadership in project planning and strategy including general oversight and planning, project management, project implementation, and ensuring quality of work products.

  • Serves as a project manager or discipline manager on relevant assignments leading HNTB's 4 for 4 (Consistent delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client's satisfaction on every project) performance.

  • Conducts multimodal transportation research and detailed analysis of data.

  • Conducts origin-destination studies and/or travel market analyses for transit and other transportation projects.

  • Applies and/or manages the application of traffic/transportation analysis tools such as travel demand forecasting models, traffic microsimulation, traffic operations modeling, predictive safety analysis, traffic signal timing, transportation management planning.

  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Familiar with requirements of transportation analyses for California and federal environmental documents.

  • May oversee the work of less experienced staff.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), Certified Estimating Professional (CEP), Envision, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP)

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Under minimal direction, performs a variety of more highly complex professional planning, environmental planning, landscape architecture and urban design project responsibilities, and leads technical tasks.

  • Writes and/or reviews major sections of and leads production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for projects. Coordinates and synthesizes the contributions of others.

  • Leads, prepares, and reviews graphics, technical reports, work plans, scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to Request for Proposals for projects. Prepares and reviews budgets, invoicing, and billing.

  • Leads public and stakeholder engagement and presents information to the community.

  • Provides guidance and mentors staff.

  • Leads coordination with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.

  • Recommends process and system improvements that result in greater efficiencies, enhanced capacities, and improved service delivery.

  • Supports department managers and office leadership with strategic planning, staffing/training, and other special projects.

  • May serve as project manager or task lead.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field and 10 years related experience

  • Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field and 9 yrs of relevant experience
