HNTB Deputy Project Manager/Construction in Savannah, Georgia
What We're Looking For
Provides technical and engineering support to Project Management and Construction Management.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Reports to the Project Manager
The Deputy Project Manager is a project leadership position
Frequent interactions with the contractor, project management team (PMT), general engineering consultant (GEC), and client (GDOT)
Work location will be in a field office provided by GDOT
Responsible to support the Project Manager in the administration of design-build projects ranging in size from $150M to $2.0B in metro Atlanta, Georgia.
Coordinates daily activities within the GDOT PMT for the timely resolution of technical and construction field activities.
Oversees and manages the review of design and construction submittals for contract conformance.
Responsible to oversee and manage administrative work submittals to assure timely review and approval
Responsible for the monthly review and recommendation for approval of the contractor’s monthly pay request
Assist Project Manager and Commercial Business Lead (CBL) in assessing project change including owner directed and contractor initiated change requests
Assist Project Manager and CBL in managing project risk by developing, monitoring, implementing, and documenting risk management plans and strategies
Responsible to oversee and manage project auditing (process and end product) of both the contractor’s performance as well as the GDOT oversight team.
Develop audit checklists
Conduct pre-audit meetings with auditors and auditees
Conduct and document performance; audits confirming contract requirements and management plan commitments are followed
Conduct audit closeout meetings to review findings, discuss action items, and next steps
Develop audit finding reports documenting findings, trends, opportunities for improvement, corrective and preventative actions required to assure continuous improvement
Under the direction of the Project Manager, manages the deployment of project resources to ensure GDOT contract obligations are satisfied and work is performed efficiently.
Assist the Project Manager in the resolution of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs)
Assist the Project Manager in project partnering and dispute resolution
Monitor and oversee utility and right-of-way activities
Oversee and monitor construction field activities
Gatekeeper for distribution of incoming project correspondence to ensure tasks are properly assigned to the appropriate discipline and completed.
Responsible to oversee the management and ongoing compliance of oversight obligations specifically in document control, communications, capturing and documenting the project record
Document and report on status and progress of the work.
Interact, coordinate, and public presentations of project information with project stakeholders.
Manages the compilation, documentation, and incorporation of project lessons learned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Construction Management6 years project/construction management experienceIn lieu of education, Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
Georgia PE certification
Heavy highway construction experience
Design-build experience
GDOT experience
Basic understanding of GDOT’s Private Public Partnership (P3) quality oversight model
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent computer skills (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
Understanding of project design and constructability
Understanding of project management tools (eBuilder/SharePoint) desired
Understanding of project scheduling and interpretation
What You'll Need
Essential Responsibilities:
Responsible for gross revenue of <$1M.
Responsible for coordinating between Contractor and Architect in the timely resolution of technical field issues. Coordinates with Architects and Engineers for timely and accurate responses to requests for information.
Reviews submittals for conformance to plans and specifications. Develops strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements.
Confirms merit of change order request, develops estimates, negotiates costs and writes change orders.
Coordinates with surveying, testing and inspection staff.
Oversees staff in the maintenance and distribution of current contract plans and specifications.
Confirms contractor’s maintenance of record drawings prior to monthly progress payment to the Contractor.
Accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to his/her discipline field.
Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness of accuracy of design effort.
Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts.
Provides cost control on projects and quality control within discipline.
Ensures completeness and accuracy of design team work.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management
8 years project/construction management experience
In lieu of education, Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
