Overview

HNTB is seeking an Environmental Office Engineer for the New NY Bridge Project located in Tarrytown, NY

Job Summary

Performs basic contract administration functions for medium projects. Assists in performing field inspection of multiple routine contractor activities.

Essential Responsibility

  • Inspects and documents individual activities performed by the contractor.

  • Performs measurement of completed work to date.

  • Reads and comprehends contract documents.

  • Keeps inspectors daily report of assigned work activities.

  • Maintains overall project daily diary.

  • Prepares monthly construction estimates.

  • Assists in on-site material testing.

  • Monitors construction progress to assure proper installation sequences and compliance with schedule and contract requirements and state and local regulations.

  • Assists in the review and modifications of schedules, specifications

  • and drawings.Prepares short term schedules to identify potential scheduling problems and recommends possible solutions.

  • Acts as project manager as needed.

  • Performs other duites as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

Successful candidate should have experience in basic construction contract administration functions. The candidate, working under the direct supervision of the OECM (Oversight Environmental Compliance Manager) will assist in contract management, contract administration and contract compliance. Responsible for maintaining project records and documentation. Assists senior project staff in the administration of projects. This will include, but not limited to:

Management of Environmental Documents – Organize Environmental area of PMIS to allow timely retrieval of environmental documents.

Assist Oversight Environmental Compliance Manager:

  • Track reviews of TZC Environmental reports. Coordinate with Technical leads to ensure documents are returned in a timely basis and properly filed.

  • Track field compliance team’s inspections to ensure they are consistent with Environmental Compliance Oversight Plan (ECOP). Maintain tracking processes and protocols.

  • Track action items from Environmental meetings

  • Track reporting to outside agencies to ensure timely submittals per permitting and other environmental approvals

  • Track NYSTA compliance with ECOP

  • Assist field staff with filing of daily reports/field audit reports

  • Upload, update and manage various project related documents on the project Share Point system

  • Other Tasks, including occasional field inspection, recording of meeting minutes and maintaining inventory of environmental equipment

  • Assist IOECM (Independent Oversight Environmental Compliance Monitor) and Field Engineer on an as needed basis

  • Assist in creation and update of audit forms

  • Coordinate with FHWA and State and Federal Regulatory Agencies

  • Track submission of update/revised Project Permits, Reports and Plans and team responses

  • Coordinate Submittal Reviews and Comments with various team members, compile information and submit to Design-Builder

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture

1 year construction experience

All jurisdictional certifications as required

Preferred Qualification/Skills

  • BS in Engineering, Environmental Studies or NICET II Certification

  • Five years of relevant work experience preferred

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office

  • Experience in Construction Inspection on NYSDOT or NYSTA contracts will be given preference

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
